Born to Die

Screen/memory

I am currently exploring the idea of the sex drive and repression.
It is apparent within film that the spectator is positioned as a kind of 'peeping tom' or voyeur. In recent years cinema has become increasingly graphic, presenting audiences with uncomfortably compelling images.
I am interested in the way the spectator feels obliged or perhaps intrigued by sexually graphic or horrific scenes and the response of repression that often follows.
